Welcome to our plant. Not only is Custom Cabinets a business that was started right here in Newfoundland, we also support other local businesses in the area by purchasing local wood products, that we believe are of the highest quality in our manufacturing process. We believe that Newfoundland wood products are top quality that is why we use them in our manufacturing our cabinets.

Our staff is experienced and knowledgeable about both the manufacturing process and the products we use. We also know there are also new skills to learn. That is why we believe that all of our employees have something great to offer to each other in the learning process. They all work together as a team. Whenever the opportunity arises our management team take part in trade shows and other manufacturing seminars. This is beneficial in a couple ways; 1) they get to meet others in their industry and 2) they also learn” new tricks of the trade”. As a cabinet manufacturing company we keep on top of our trade with both top-notch products and new technology techniques to the manufacturing industry.

The following will help you understand the process of manufacturing cabinets from beginning to end.

Stage 1
When our product arrives at our plant it is first checked and the put in the proper department for storage. There are many different types of material required to build a set of kitchen cabinets. We stock everything from the melimine board to make the cabinet boxes to the solid wood moldings used to add those finishing touches.
Stage 2
The first step in the cabinet manufacturing process is to cut the proper material to the specific sizes need to construct the boxes, which is the foundation of the cabinets. Our staff has both the training and experience to use the equipment with precision and efficiency. This picture shows an employee cutting a piece of material on a sliding table panel saw.
Stage 3
Once all the material is cut to construct the cabinets it is then sent to the assembly department, which will put the boxes together. While the boxes are put together another employee is gathering all the supplies such as cabinet doors, panels, and moldings. These supplies will now head towards the sanding department.
Stage 4
The next step is to lightly sand each cabinet door; this is done by hand. Now the doors and other supplies are ready to be stained. The stain we use is a wipe on stain. This means the stain is wiped on with a lint free cloth and then wiped off by hand. With many choices of stain an employee must know the technique involved in this process in order to obtain the proper shade, so each door is a consistent color.
Stage 5
The cabinets are now sent to another department where they will be sealed. The sealer is applied to the wood to seal off the pores in the wood. This is so the finish coat does not absorb in the wood and remains on the top to protect the product over time.
Stage 6
The cabinet doors are now ready to get their finish coat, which is called lacquer. This is an important step in the cabinet manufacturing process because it gives our cabinets the shine and durability demanded by today’s homeowners. The lacquer we use as a finish coat on our cabinets has a 46% Solid content compared to 34% used by most businesses in the industry. This gives our cabinets the extra strength it needs to stand the test of time.
Stage 7
Once the cabinets have been sanded, sealed and sprayed with a finish coat they are ready to be assembled. This is the last step before the cabinets reach the customer’s home. First the frames are put on the boxes and after each box has a frame the doors are put on. Now each cabinet is fully constructed and ready for inspection. The cabinets are then inspected to ensure our customers are getting the quality they deserve.
